Taylor was shot multiple times when police officers burst into her Louisville apartment using a no-knock warrant during a narcotics investigation. No drugs were found.

Myles Cosgrove, the former Louisville, Kentucky, police officer who killed Breonna Taylor in 2020, got a new job as a deputy. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to local reporters on Saturday that Cosgrove passed a background check and will be part of their department.

Speaking with Mother Jones, Breonna’s aunt had this to say about the hiring. “This is a prime example of how police officers are protected” and “able to get away with such vicious crimes with no accountability.”

Cosgrove was one of three Louisville officers who raided Breonna’s apartment on March 13th, 2020. Investigators said that Cosgrove fired 16 rounds after the officers breached the door. Kentucky Law Enforcement Council voted not to revoke Cosgrove’s state peace officer certification, which means he could apply for other law enforcement jobs in the state.
