According to KRTV-TV, Rodríguez, host of A Rifleman’s Journal and an editor for Guns & Ammo Magazine and other outdoors publications, was visiting the state as part of a business trip when he went to see the woman at her mother’s house on Thursday night.
Whitefish Police Chief Bill Dial said the woman’s husband, 41-year-old Wayne Bengston, “came into the house, immediately shot Mr. Rodríguez and killed him almost instantly. Dial also said Bengston beat his wife before leaving the house with her 2-year-old son.
The child was found unharmed at a relative’s house. Police later found Bengston dead at his home 25 miles away, in the nearby town of West Glacier, with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The Associated Press reported that a SWAT team entered the home after failing to make contact with Bengston.
“I think it was a jealous husband,” Dial said. “But this is all conjecture.”
A Rifleman’s Journal followed Rodríguez, a 43-year-old resident of Sugar Land, Texas, as he hunted in exotic locations. The AP reported that Rodríguez worked as an investment banker before pursuing a career in the outdoors. Besides hosting the program, he was also the founder and chief executive officer of his own company, Global Adventure Outfitters, an editor at Shooting Times magazine nd a contributing editor at Dangerous Game and Petersen’s Hunting in addition to Guns & Ammo.
