The FBI & their 40-Year Bogus Investigation on Aretha Franklin

It’s not just the overt systems system of slavery, Jim Crow, and mass incarceration. It’s also the extensive lengths that the government has made to thwart the efforts of the people and organizations who fought to combat that oppression.

Under the leadership of J. Edgar Hoover, between 1925 and 1972, the FBI kept tabs on almost every Black leader they consider a threat. From Martin Luther King Jr to Malcolm X to Fred Hampton, the agency was hell-bent to stop the rise of a “Black Messiah”

It also comes to light, that the agency not only monitors activists but entertainers as well. There have been files on lack artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Marvin Gaye, Whitney Houston, and Notorious BIG.

Now it has been revealed that legendary singer Aretha Franklin was also included on that list. Although there was nothing incriminating that was revealed, the FBI investigated Franklin for 40 years.

Her files were obtained by Rolling Stones last month via a 2018 Freedom of Information request. It shows that the agency had surveillance on Franklin from 1967 to 2007.  In a bogus attempt to try to link her to some threatening Black radical movement, they monitor her calls, movements, and performances.
