Two voting rights anniversaries were celebrated during August, but they also recall historic divisions between the main beneficiaries.
First, on August 6th we celebrated the 45th anniversary of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s signing of the 1965 voting Rights Act. The act is the implementing legislation (95 years later) of the 15th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution which was added in 1870.
