On Friday, the embattled rapper appeared in court, with his legal team attempting to put up $50 million with his Star Island mansion, which was raided by feds in March, as collateral. His lawyers also proposed that Combs be under house arrest with 24 hour surveillance.
But District Judge Arun Subramaniam, who is overseeing the rapper’s sex trafficking case, wasn’t buying it. There were apparently concerns that Combs remains a flight risk and has a dock at the waterfront South Florida compound.
The alternative plan was to have Combs stay at his three bedroom apartment on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, according to Newsweek. “
There’d be two security guards in the apartment and one downstairs, so a total of three,” one of his lawyers Marc Agnifilo reportedly told the judge. “No access to phones or the internet, except for calls with counsel arranged by the security personnel.”
A decision will be made next week regarding that arrangement. That means Combs will be behind bars at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center on Thanksgiving.
A rep for the Federal Bureau of Prisons told The New York Post that the disgraced mogul’s communal holiday meal on Thursday will be traditional — turkey with cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes with gravy, mixed veggies, dinner rolls and “assorted pies.”
The father of seven’s trial on sex trafficking and other charges is set for May 5, 2025.
