Man accused of killing 2 deputies: ‘I did kill those cops’

“I did kill those cops. You can execute me whenever you’re ready,” Luis Enrique Monroy Bracamontes said at the end of a hearing in Sacramento County Superior Court, the Associated Press reported.

During a break, he told his lawyers he wanted to plead guilty, the AP reports, but they told him he could not. His attorneys blamed the outburst on anxiety.

Bracamontes faces two counts of murder in the deaths of Sacramento County sheriff’s Deputy Daniel Oliver and Placer County sheriff’s Deputy Michael Davis. He is also charged with three counts of attempted murder, including shooting a motorist he allegedly carjacked.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for Bracamontes, who is accused of killing the deputies during a six-hour shooting rampage in October. His wife, Janelle Monroy, faces lesser charges, including being an accessory. She is not facing the death penalty.
