Al-Qaeda-linked gunmen held an unknown number of people hostage at an upscale mall in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, following an attack yesterday in which at least 59 people were killed.
More than 175 people were wounded in the assault, Kenyan Interior Secretary Joseph Ole Lenku told reporters today in the city. The country’s national security advisory council met earlier today and the operation to free the remaining people still inside the building is at a “very delicate” stage, he said. More than 1,000 people have been rescued.
