All the Former Hosts of Rap City show up to the Screening of “Welcome to Rap City” in Atlanta

One of the platforms that we used to rely on to get our Hip Hop fix was Rap City on BET. The show along with YO! MTV Raps was pretty much the only place where you could see Hip Hop artists and watch their videos.

Last year, I got a chance to interview Big Tigger who was one of the most popular hosts on the show.

Rap City started in 1989 and almost lasted three decades until 2008.  The show not only became a staple in households, but an integral part of the Hip Hop culture. In celebration of the show and 50 years of Hip Hop, BET has decided to release a three-part documentary about the show.

The doc which is titled “Welcome to Rap City” will show never-before-seen footage of iconic Hip Hop stars and provide viewers with a look back at the importance Rap City paid to the culture.

During the documentary, all the former hosts from Chris “The Mayor” Thomas to J-Nicks and Q45 will reflect on their time on the show. It will also feature sit-down interviews with some of Hip-Hop’s biggest names along with some of the executives who help make the show happen.

Last week the exclusive premiere of “Welcome to Rap City” in Atlanta and it was a celebration. All the former hosts of the show were there along with other influencers from around the city.

Of course, BTN was in the building for the show and we have all the pictures from the event. Check it out below.

“Welcome to Rap City” premieres tonight Tuesday, October 10 at 8 PM ET/PT, followed by “BET Hip Hop Awards” 2023.
