Compounding the celebration by Wrigley Field was the rainout of the Cubs’ game. From the Tribune’s account of the scene:
A few fans climbed the traffic lights near Clark and Addison while others lit fireworks on the block. One man who climbed the pole lept off the pedestrian crosswalk signal into fans and began crowd-surfing. The man was not arrested despite a line of officers on bicycles watching from a distance.
But not everyone was so lucky. By the times crowds has dispersed, at least five people had been arrested.
At least two people were arrested about 11:15 p.m. Monday after a confrontation between two men and police officers culminated in a officer being choked briefly.
