Hits and Misses from No Limit vs Cash Money Verzuz

his year the two decided to hit the stage together a Versuz battle. The epic showdown was anticipated for many reasons. For one, Verzuz hasn’t had a competition in three years. Secondly, I would argue it has been four years since they had a good show.  [KRS-One vs Big Daddy Kane in 2021]

It was only right that the return would be one of equally impactful labels, from the same area and around the same era. I know Cash Money has been around for over 25 years and is still relevant. It could be argued that no Hip Hop label has successfully reinvented itself in the manner that Cash Money has.

In 2017, Birdman publicly accepted a plaque in honor of Cash Money Records having sold one billion units (singles and albums combined). Keep in mind, a good chunk of those records came from Young Money records, which is a label started by Lil Wayne and features Drake, and Nicki Minaj.

This Verzuz battle was not Young Money; it was Cash Money. The label that introduced us to the Hot Boys and Big Tymers, the original crew from New Orleans. This was the root of the branches that grew from the tree. Going against the label from which they may have gotten their blueprint, No Limit Records.

No Limit didn’t sell a billion records or has the longevity of its counterparts. However, it could be argued that the “Tank” had the highest peak than any other Hip Hop label. In a three-year span of 1997-2000, No Limit released over 50 albums and sold over 100 million records.  The New Orleans crew with camouflage and tanks on their chains is what we wanted.

The stage was set in Las Vegas, October 25th, 2025, the Verzuz battle between No Limit and Cash Money. I was anticipating the battle but also disappointed by the absence of some key people. Primarily not knowing Mystikal wasn’t going be there, dampen the vibe. I know C-Murder is also behind bars, but he has been there longer which has prevented him from making more music than Mystikal.

Plus, let’s be real, Mystikal was the man when he was on No Limit! It’s disappointing that his career has been hampered with constant legal trouble.

On the other side of the stage, Hot Boy Turk had already said that he wasn’t participating in the show. I like Turk, and even though I think he sometimes overstates his impact, I do believe he is an integral part of the group and should have been present.

Those things were expected, but then there wasn’t Lil Wayne in the building. No, Weezy is no good! The biggest star from either camp wasn’t there, which automatically decreased the energy for me.

Despite these omissions, I enjoyed seeing and hearing songs from the artists who were there. To their credit, No Limit came squad deep for the show. It seems like every member that could make it for the No Limit side was there.  The standout performance for me was Mia X, she was up there emceeing. She didn’t need any background vocals, no hype man, just the track and a microphone.

The same could be said about Juvenile; the veteran artist has had a resurgence which was probably started by his performance on NPR’s Tiny Desk. However, I don’t think his performance was enough for me to choose Cash Money over No Limit. There is power in numbers and the fact that everyone showed up and showed out for No Limit proved to be enough for me.
