House Ethics Committee Investigates U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush, a Chicago Democrat

The committee, which investigates allegations of lawmaker misconduct, said today the independent Office of Congressional Ethics referred an unspecified “matter” to the committee last June 10.

The Ethics Committee said extending its look at Rush does not “indicate any violation has occurred.” It said it would have more to say by Nov. 10.

Rush, 67, has served in Congress since 1993.

Rush, in a statement, said that the committee’s announcement meant more time was needed for the panel to make a “substantive determination.”

“I am hopeful that the Ethics Committee will approach this in a manner that takes into account the cooperation I have shown from the outset, and my willingness to adhere to any guidance that House Ethics has made, or will make, available to me,” the statement read.
