During a Maine Republican Party fundraiser on Aug. 12, Gov. LePage made the remark that Obama “hates white people.” Lawmakers at the gathering confirmed the comment to the Portland Press Herald.
LePage said that Obama could’ve been an excellent president if he’d been willing to highlight his biracial heritage, but he doesn’t do that because he “hates white people.” According to that logic, Obama also hated the mother and grandparents who raised him and cared for him all of his life.
“Yeah, he said it,” said one of the lawmakers. “It was one little thing from a speech, but I think most people there thought it was totally inappropriate.”
Reps. Alex Willette of Mapleton and Larry Dunphy of Embden said they didn’t hear the comment.
“I didn’t hear him say anything like that,” said Willette.
