New York escapees still in prison area: Terrified residents stock up, hunker in

The dogs have picked up the scent of Matt and Sweat at a gas station about a mile away from the prison and have followed it east toward the town of Cadyville. A dumpster for a Subway sandwich shop at that gas station offered up clues that the two men may have rummaged for food while there. If the men are indeed still on the run alone, they are most likely getting desperate, which heightens the danger of running across these escapees.

These men are killers and they have nothing to lose, so to say they are dangerous sounds like an understatement. Schools in the search area are closed and many of the residents are opting to stay home from work. One resident talked to CNN News and said, “I haven’t left home in two days, I had to call in to work today because you wouldn’t be able to return back home,” Brooke Lepage said. “There were constant helicopters. Last night they had floodlights. There was a recorded (telephone) message telling us to stay in the house and make sure outside lights were on.”

According to Reuters News on Friday, there are 500 people involved in the search of this area around the prison today along with aviation units and K-9 units. The area is saturated with law enforcement on foot, in the air and on the roads. Check points have everyone popping their car trunks open as police are leaving nothing to chance.

One of the latest mysteries coming out of this prison break is the professional cut in a pipe that created the hole for the prison escapees to crawl through on their way out of the building. This has officials believing Matt and Sweat may have had help.
