Sean Spicer Quits as Press Secretary

Spicer told the president he believed his decision to appoint New York financier Anthony Scaramucci as White House communications director was a mistake, a source in touch with the White House and with knowledge of their conversation says.

“He gave him an ultimatum: ‘It’s either him or me,'” the source tells U.S. News. “And the president said, ‘Thank you for your service, have a good day.’ I think the president wanted him to stay. But Sean wanted to be the boss and Trump said, ‘No, Scaramucci’s going to be the boss.'”

The communications director position has been vacant since the resignation of Mike Dubke earlier this year. Scaramucci has formally accepted the White House job offer, a White House source tells U.S. News, and the announcement was made to the White House press team around noon on Friday.

In a tweet, Spicer said he will continue working through August.

It’s been an honor & a privilege to serve @POTUS@realDonaldTrump & this amazing country. I will continue my service through August
