Richardson was arrested on a fourth-degree domestic violence offense for allegedly assaulting her boyfriend, sprinter Christian Coleman, at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
It was kept entirely quiet as she was booked into South Correctional Entity (SCORE) in Des Moines, Washington, for more than 18 hours. Eventually, the news would start to come out.
Christian Coleman and Richardson remained quiet until the male sprinter decided to speak out.
Instead of bashing Richardson, he decided to take her side.
The 29-year-old defended his girlfriend, one week after the Olympic 100-meter silver medalist was detained at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport for allegedly pushing him multiple times, causing him to fall against a pillar, bumping into him, and throwing a pair of headphones in his direction.
“For me personally, I feel like it was a sucky situation all around,” Coleman told reporters on Sunday.
“I don’t feel like she should have been arrested. I mean, people have discussions and emotions and stuff like that.”
The three-time world championship gold medalist then alluded to Sha’Carri Richardson’s past emotional struggles.
“She has things that she needs to work on for herself, of course,” he said. “So do I, so do you, so does everybody. But I’m the type of guy who’s in the business of extending grace, and mercy and love.”
Sha’Carri Richardson Misses Qualifying For 200-Meter Final

Sha’Carri Richardson narrowly missed qualifying for the 200-meter final Sunday at the U.S. track and field championships.
Richardson wound up fourth in her heat in a time of 22.56 seconds. The top two finishers in each heat advance, along with the next three fastest times.
She would get edged out by Madison Whyte as she ran 22.55 seconds in the same heat.
This was Richardson’s first 200 race of the season. She won a bronze medal at the distance during the 2023 world championships in Budapest.
