”Szabados, mindful that no woman has appeared in an N.H.L. regular-season game and that only Manon Rhéaume has played in an exhibition game, with Tampa Bay in 1992, said, “I think I’m quite a ways from that.”
She added, “Stranger things have happened.”
Johnson said it took time for him to adjust to the S.P.H.L.’s higher grade of competition. Szabados, he said, will go through a similar adjustment process. “She’ll adjust really quickly,” he predicted.
But will everyone adjust to her? “They better,” he said, “because she’s here and she’s staying.”
