Instead of just persecuting the woman stealing, the manager of the store decided to kick out all the black women in the store; including Houzah. Over a million people have viewed Houzah video explaining how the manager told the black women “I just need y’all to go.” Victoria Secret issued a statement saying “What happened at our store should not have happened and does not represent who we are or what we stand for. The store associate involved in this matter is no longer employed with the company. Victoria’s Secret is adamant that all customers regardless of race be treated with dignity and respect at all times.”
I agree with Kimberly Houzah when she acknowledged that she doesn’t think everyone is racist. “You don’t want to be that person that feels like everybody’s racist, and I don’t feel like everybody’s racist, she said in her video. In spite of that statement, there are too many situations where Black people are shopping in stores where they feel like they are not wanted. You walk in the store and seems like people are watching you. I know I’m not the only Black person who has felt that way. This is not just a feeling of insecurity, this is atmosphere that represents a racist society. And I’m not saying all stores and it’s employees participate in that behavior. But I do think that it has been going on so long that something should be done. Throughout the month of December, there are going be a lot of Black people spending money in this country. This incident would be a great way to show the importance of the Black customers and the Black dollar. For one week, Black people around the country should boycott Victoria Secret. This would set a example to not only Victoria Secret, but to other companies to give respect and value to their Black customers.
