La’Darious Wylie was waiting for the school bus with his 7-year-old sister when a car veered toward them, WBTV-TV reports. La’Darious pushed his sister out of the way just in time.
“He knew to look out for her,” both boy’s mother Elizaberth McCrorey told ABC affiliate WSOC-TV.
La’Darious was then struck by the car. He died at the hospital.
The driver, later identified as Michelle Johnson, 57, didn’t stick around. She’s now charged in the fatal hit-and-run death.
“I don’t hate her; I just wish she had stopped,” McCrorey told WSOC-TV.
The boy’s funeral is set for Thursday afternoon.
