It is interesting that Cardi won the award for songwriting when she has faced criticism for not writing her songs. Cardi has responded to the critics by saying “Everybody be trying to come at my throat because people wanna say that I don’t write a lot of my shit. And I write a lot of my shit. That’s the funny shit,” she stated. “I be letting y’all talk because I don’t give a fuck, but a bitch can fucking write. You just gotta sit down and fucking think. What is hard about that?”
Last year the demo version of songwriter Pardison Fontaine’s Be Careful was leaked online. Additionally, Kodak Black was credited as a songwriter for her first hit “Bodak Yellow.” Cardi was also dismissive towards her critics and claimed a lot of other rappers use songwriters. “All these rappers have writers,” Cardi said. “Even the ones that say they don’t, they lying bitch.”
