Charles Barkley is Far Removed from the Ghetto

barkley comments 5The Obama presidency and the post-racial attitudes of some in this country shouldn’t hide oppression. The lack of accountability for this oppression is what add sting to the punch given to Black folks. After the Jewish Holocaust, surviving members of the Nazi party were put on trial; and most were convicted based on the evidence. In fact, if anyone today is found to have ties with the Nazi party and their dealings with the Holocaust they may stand trial. Some Native Americans who ancestors were persecuted and oppressed in this country have received land, casinos or compensation. Although these gestures don’t wipe away the crimes themselves, they do provide some relief and justice.

On the other hand we as Black people have no one to stand trial. No one takes the blame for slavery, most say leave it in the past. No one is standing trial for the infiltration of Crack Cocaine and guns in the Black community. Now no one is being held accountable for police officers who are killing Black folks on a daily basis. Similar to the Civil Rights Movement, the heighten awareness has sparked protest. For Barkley to minimize this moment and throw out factors as important as race and history is alarming. Mainstream media has more Blacks who think like him and Don Lemon on their staff and that’s scary. That’s one of the reasons we started Black Truth News; we feel if the people who are to make a change are reluctant. Then it leaves us no choice but to do it ourselves. What do you think about Charles Barkley’s interview? How do you feel about the protests? Feel free to leave your opinions below.
