Inmate Accidentally Set Free Despite New Charges, Officials Say

Garrett Glover, 29, was released from the Illinois Department of Corrections sometime Monday, Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart’s office said in a news release.

Glover was sentenced Thursday to four years in prison for a 2014 case of attempted armed robbery case, authorities said.

While awaiting trial, Glover picked up another charge for his alleged involvement in a 2012 shooting that happened on the Dan Ryan Expy., the sheriff’s office said. Since the new case has not gone to trial yet, Glover should’ve been returned to Cook County Jail, 2700 S. California Ave.

Instead, state officials released him.

The sheriff’s office is “investigating the circumstances surrounding his release,” according to a spokeswoman. Anyone with information is asked to call 773-674-0169.

Aiding a fugitive is a felony punishable by one to three years in prison.
