The man who murdered Eric Garner back in 2014 is still working for the New York Police Department. Earlier this month, Judge Rosemarie Maldonado recommended that Daniel Pantaleo be fired from the NYPD. She stated that Pantaleo was “untruthful” in his interviews with investigators following the incident that killed Garner.

I found [Pantaleo’s] uncorroborated hearsay statements explaining his actions to be untruthful,” Maldonado stated. The judge also thought that the other two officers Mark Ramos and Craig Furlani who were present on the scene to be less than cooperative with the investigators. “The accounts presented by [Pantaleo’s] witnesses on this point were also unhelpful or unreliable,” Maldonado said. “In fact, the more central the factual inquiry was, the more vague recollections became.”

The Times published the judge’s full 46-page opinion yesterday in their paper. Despite the recommendation from the judge, Pantaleo has only been suspended from active duty. To read more about this story click here.
