Kanye West Showed Off New Yeezy Boost 350s—and Some Aggressive Jean-Cuffing

The extra-long single cuff dates to the days when denim was actually workwear, and jeans were part of uniforms distributed to employees on the daily. As such, jeans had to be cut extra long to suit every kind of guy—meaning if you were shorter, the cuff was necessary to keep your jeans from dragging on the ground. A century later, the long cuff returned thanks to raw denim purists—you know, the guys with mustaches and flannel and a pickling habit—looking to channel that early 1900s feel.

Kanye…is not exactly a traditional workwear bro. But in the above photo, he’s pulling off the same move—only while wearing washed black jeans, cut much slimmer than your average railworker’s pair. The result of West’s odd cuff job is that he looks like a man standing at the tailor waiting for his jeans to be pinned and ultimately hemmed. Now, this denim misstep is not nearly as egregious as say, Leonardo DiCaprio’s sloppily rolled jeans, but we would prefer if West went back to stacking, or took the time to get his jeans hemmed. Or, as many guys have done over the past couple of years, he could also just hit ’em with a pair of scissors, leaving a rugged frayed edge. Anything other than what’s going on here is cool with us, basically.

And, look: we get it. Kanye West has another Yeezy Boost that will surely sell out in seconds, and his ultra-beefy cuff is a magnifying glass for the sneaker. But wearing bright-as-hell yellow kick already pulls plenty of eyeballs. (And if you’re Kanye West, you have to know that any sneakers you wear are going to be noticed, regardless of how you style your jeans.) Unless, of course, the next season of his Yeezy line features tons of mega-cuffed jeans. In which case, Kanye, please: give us a call. We can help.
