Kentavious Caldwell-Pope could face discipline from NBA for DUI arrest

Caldwell-Pope, 24, was pulled over Wednesday morning on Auburn Road near Squirrel Road after he was clocked going 20 miles over the 25-m.p.h. speed limit at 2:50 a.m., according to police.

An officer smelled alcohol and put Caldwell-Pope through sobriety tests, which indicated impairment. Caldwell-Pope was arrested. He was issued a ticket for operating while intoxicated after a Breathalyzer test at the Auburn Hills police station registered his blood-alcohol content at 0.08. No court date has been set for his arraignment.

The arrest came hours after the Pistons’ 97-96 loss to the Miami Heat.

WDIV Local 4 was first to report the news.

The incident subjects Caldwell-Pope, who is in his fourth season and will be a restricted free agent this summer, to the NBA’s substance abuse policy. With only six games remaining this season, any punishment would occur at the beginning of next season.

The league will conduct its own investigation and wait for the case to run its course.

Former Piston Greg Monroe was suspended for two games at the start of the 2014-15 season for pleading guilty to driving while impaired.

Pistons assistant coach Tim Hardaway was suspended three games at the start of this season for a drunken-driving arrest last April.
