During a recent interview on the Breakfast Club, Meek Mill addressed the situation surrounding Kevin Gates release from prison. “I see something with Kevin Gates right now, where he can’t leave out of Chicago. What y’all trying to get him killed? 700 people got killed in Chicago this year. I [he] came to Chicago with a firearm because I [he] feared for my [his] life.” Meek said about Gates.
To his credit, Kevin doesn’t seem concern about being confined to staying in Chicago. Not only did he respond to Meek in a video saying the people in Chicago “loved him;” he also gave a shout out to Harold’s Chicken and Jerk Villa in his new song.
Most people know about Harold’s Chicken through numerous shout outs from rappers over the years. However not too many outside of Chicago know about Jerk Villa. Their restaurant happens to be my favorite place to get Jerk chicken in Chicago; so it made me smile to hear Gates say “Mickie D’s we was purchasin’ salads/ Chi-raq, buyin’ chicken from Harold’s/ Jerk Villa curry chicken and cabbage.”
