Lions fire Jim Schwartz

 

The Lions will have a press conference at 2 p.m. with team president Tom Lewand and general manager Martin Mayhew.

 

There have been numerous candidates already mentioned as possibilities for the Lions.

 

Among them: Ken Wisenhunt, offensive coordinator at San Diego; Jay Gruden, offensive coordinator at Cincinnati; Bill O’Brien, head coach at Penn State, Lovie Smith, former Bears coach; Bill Cowher, former Steelers coach; Greg Roman, offensive coordinator at San Francisco; Jon Gruden, former head coach at Tampa and Oakland; Jim Mora Jr., head coach at UCLA; Adam Gase, offensive coordinator at Denver; Mike Zimmer, defensive coordinator at Cincinnati; Brian Kelly, head coach at Notre Dame; and Kevin Summlin, head coach at Texas A&M.

 

Schwartz had two years and a reported $12 million left on his contract with Detroit.
