A succession of supporters castigated Sen. McCain and other members of the Arizona delegation, Reps. Paul A. Gosar, Jeff Flake and Anne Kirkpatrick and all pledged to take back Oak Flat, a sacred gathering place, ceremonial spot and burial site in Arizona.
Tribal Elder Sandra Rambler vowed to do whatever’s necessary to fight back against those seeking to steal Native American lands.
“We ate crackers, drank water, ate sausage and fruits that people donated,” she said. “It’s not about money. It’s about what’s in here, especially the youth. My great-grandmother’s buried at Oak Flat. I will stand before the bulldozers. Do you think I’m intimidated? Do you think Gosar, Flake or McCain intimidate me?”
“This affects you all. We need to repeal House Resolution 2811. Our ancestral and holy land was given to a foreign company. I’m sure America doesn’t want to make this a precedent. The power is you out there. The power is the people. Get on the phone, your laptop, email your messages of support. The drums are beating and the drum will beat until the end of time. Nothing will stop us. No surrender.”
