No Arrests In Death Of Bronx Newborn Who May Have Been Thrown From Window

Police said they were called to a building at 130 West 183rd Street around 2:30 p.m. Monday.

That’s when sources told CBS2 the wife of the building’s superintendent found the baby’s body in the courtyard of the building. The infant’s umbilical cord was still attached.

Police said she was likely born inside of a seventh floor apartment and then likely thrown from a window by someone inside, CBS2’s Janelle Burrell reported.

Investigators found surveillance video showing the child falling from a seventh-floor window, sources said.

As detectives spent hours questioning people in the building and searching for evidence, neighbors looked on stunned, many unsure what to make of the heartbreaking scene.

“If you went, ‘I don’t want this baby, I’m gonna toss it out the window?’ That’s just ridiculous,” said neighbor Tiffany Martinez.

“I’m a mother, it’s just devastating that any child, any child — it’s just mind-blowing,” said neighbor Krissy Marcado.

Martinez said the father is her close friend and said the man and the baby’s mother also have a 3-year-old son together.

“He’s a good guy and every time I see him, he’s with his son. He’s a good man,” she said. “From what I’ve seen, they always look like a happy family.”

So far, no arrests have been made.

A police source said charges may be pending against the mother, 1010 WINS’ John Montone reported. She was taken to an area hospital.

The city Medical Examiner will determine the baby’s exact cause of death.
