Recap of Lauryn Hill Performance at the 2022 One Music Fest in Atlanta (No she wasn’t late!!)

I wasn’t shy in telling anyone who would listen that I was waiting on her performance. The downside of waiting on her show is that you might have to wait longer than usual for her to show up. Over the years, concertgoers have come to expect the legendary artist to show up late.

Despite her reputation for being tardy, I was still excited to see her perform. This was my first time seeing her in concert and I wasn’t going to miss it, no matter what. She was scheduled as the last act on the main stage for the first night of the two-day event in Atlanta. This means it was already getting late and I was getting tired. Sitting backstage with the press, I had it in my head that she wasn’t going to make it on time for her 9:30 PM starting time.

Then what did you know, at around 9: 25pm a black SUV pulls up, and just like that Lauryn hops out the back and briskly walks upstairs to the stage. I got some footage of her entrance, I don’t know if you can hear my smile through the audio, but I happily said “L Boogie is in this bitch.”

Now me being me, instead of getting footage, I just followed her entourage on the stage. My camera was rolling, but I was unable to get footage because I was leery of security. You can see in the video below that it was kind of chaotic, but I still wanted to include it, so you can get an idea of the setting.

Now I will tell you one interesting thing I saw while I was standing backstage. When Lauryn walked behind the sound system in anticipation of going on stage, her people put a mirror in front of her. Not a hand-held mirror, but a full-length body mirror in front of her so she can look at herself! I have been backstage at many concerts and I have never seen an artist do that before.

Anyway, I think could have stayed backstage, but I chose to go in the front. Unfortunately, I wasn’t only able to get her to perform a couple of songs. The staff was being anal about me being in the front of the stage. Instead of getting upset, I simply resorted to being a fan and watching the show.
