The Facebook post included a smiling picture of Bryant-Geter with the caption “DHS: Make Tiara Prom Queen.” The prom was held on Saturday, April 28, and indeed, students rallied around electing her prom queen. The school announced the news on its Spartanburg School District 6 Facebook page.

“During this evening’s prom Dorman students voted Tiara Bryant-Geter as 2018 prom queen. Our students are amazing,” the post reads. “Following Friday’s tragic car accident, students shared this photo on social media, and encouraged fellow students to vote for Tiara as a way to honor her life. This was completely student-led. What a thoughtful way to pay tribute to their classmate Tiara.”

Fellow senior Ivori McJimpsey, a friend of Bryant-Geter, told local South Carolina Fox news affiliate that she had been looking forward to prom since her junior year.

“[Bryant-Geter] just wanted to go to her senior prom,” McJimpsey said. “That was the best thing for her. And I just wanted it for her.”

Unfortunately, the young lady didn’t get to see that day. South Carolina troopers stated that Bryant-Geter was driving a 2004 Kia that ran off the road and struck a tree on the right side of the road. She was “entrapped” and died at the scene at 8:17 a.m. on Friday.

An unnamed 16-year-old passenger was also injured and taken to the hospital, but no details of the victim’s condition were disclosed.

Ken Kiser, Dorman High School’s principal, told WYFF that Bryant-Geter “had such a positive impact on our students and staff.”

“She was a very active member in our JROTC program and had such a positive impact on our students and staff,” he said. “As a senior, her hard work earned her acceptance into college, but Tiara had aspirations to serve and protect others by joining the U.S. Air Force. Additional counselors are on hand for our students and staff. We ask that you join us in keeping the family in your thoughts and prayers.”

A candlelight vigil for Bryant-Geter will be held tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. EST. For details, click here.
