Yesterday (07.16.19) the Consumer Technology Association announced that it will sanction sex toys to compete at the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Sex technology will be a part of the Health and Wellness category and will give their products a chance to win awards at the event. The decision was made after a woman submitted her vibrator device in this year’s event, won an award, and ultimately got her prize revoked. The CTA stated that the reason it revoked her prize because it didn’t fit into existing product categories. According to CTA’s senior vice president of marketing Jean Foster the new policy was in response to their controversy caused by the vibrator flap.  “We’ve been really open about how we didn’t handle it well and we apologized publicly … and it caused us to revisit this and say, we should look at this as a technology,” she said. The CES show will take place on January 2020.
