This is the place to come, when you want to find that retro New York Giants Starter jacket, from their 1986 Super Bowl season. Or when you looking for the KD’s All-Star edition in grey; odds are someone at the expo has them. There are various events like these that take place across the country. Some customers and participants travel from state to state to different venues. Not only are you able to buy sneakers at these expos; but you also can sell and trade your own sneakers. I saw a documentary about these types of events on Youtube; in fact, if I’m not mistaken you can watch it on blacktruth.net here.
Coming here in person was a lot different from watching it on the net. I’m not sure if all the events are set up like the one that took place here, but this was more of a celebration for sneakerheads. It was a two-day event, with sponsors from Villa clothing store and Coca-Cola. It was pretty cool; there was a DJ playing while you shop around. It was also live performances from Chicago artists Twista and Chance the Rapper.
I talk to some of the eventgoers and realized this is not a cheap hobby. I remember begging my mom and dad for the Jordan 3’s when I was a kid. After constant whining, I got them. I was in grade school, and the agreement was that those shoes would have to last the whole school year. They did.
