Texas Executes Black Woman Amid Racism and Anti-Death Penalty Protests

(June 26th) the state of Texas executed a woman who was on death row since 1998 for a conviction on charges of capital murder and aggravated robbery.

Kimberly McCarthy, 52, (pictured) was put to death by lethal injection at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Huntsville Unit. McCarthy was pronounced dead at 6:20 p.m. CST around 20 minutes after prison officials in the execution chamber delivered her a fatal dose of pentobarbital.
