The Problem Black People have with Stephen A. Smith

Stephen A. Smith has also caught flack for his position on the Colin Kaepernick situation. He made the point that it was somewhat Kaepernick’s fault that he wasn’t allowed back in the NFL. Radio host Charlamagne Tha God, former NFL player Terrell Owens and even his White co-host Max Kellerman called him out on his stance.

I’m not sure if it’s a corporate agenda or it is a personal position for SAS to chastise athletes who don’t conform to the rules of the system. Either way, he has a way of trying to change the popular opinion of the public to a negative one when it comes to those athletes. This was more than evident in the case of Kyrie Irving who refused to take the COVID Vaccine. Kyrie’s decision not to take the shot resulted in him missing almost half of the NBA season.

There was probably no one more critical of Kyrie’s position than SAS, who on several occasions throughout the regular season called him selfish for his decision.

Kyrie Irving responded to the media criticism without calling people out.

I’m not sure if SAS is the puppet, puppetmaster, coon, or Uncle Tom. It’s hard to distinguish the real from the fake nowadays. I do believe that there aren’t many Black Men in his position when it comes to having a job within mainstream media. This is something that Smith is aware of because he has seen plenty of people come and go at ESPN. He was once fired after having his own show on the network in 2007. It seems that since his reemergence on the network he has had a no holds barred approach to reaching the top of his profession.

This has resulted in reaping the benefits that come with fame and money, but it also has led some to question his integrity. For now, Stephen A. Smith doesn’t seem fazed by the criticism thrown his way, he is concentrating on the prize. “For me, it never has been about just being on TV. I’m about success,” he said.
