This Dude Is Suing Popeyes After Being Forced to Eat Fried Chicken With His Hands

Even so, a man in Gulfport, Mississippi named Paul Newton Jr. is now suing Popeyes, claiming the fast-food chain failed to provide him with the proper cutlery to eat his fried chicken breast.

According to the Associated Press, Newton ordered from a Popeyes drive-thru window earlier this week. Instead of a receiving knife with his meal, all Newton found in his bag was a spork—a utensil that combines the poking capabilities of a fork with the scooping prowess of a spoon, but sadly does not feature a serrated edge yet.

Newton was subsequently forced to eat his chicken breast with his hands. He choked on his meal and had to undergo “emergency surgery” to remove the poultry from his throat.

When he’s not busy scarfing down fried chicken, Newton is an attorney by profession, and is now suing the chain for failing to provide him with a knife. He’s looking for financial compensation for the ordeal, but also crusading behalf of all Popeye’s customers around the country, hoping to make knives a requirement for all drive-thru orders.

“Because Newton’s order did not include a plastic knife, plaintiff Newton’s only option for consumption of the chicken breasts was to hold a chicken breast in his hands and to tear off pieces thereof with his teeth,” the suit reads.

Still, not everyone at Popeyes is buying Newton’s claims.

“If you choke on your chicken and you have to get the chicken removed from your throat, it’s not because Popeyes didn’t apply a knife to the box,” Tory Stokes, a former Popeyes employee, told WLOX. “Maybe you should slow down eating. Nobody eats chicken with utensils.”

Hey, at least Newton didn’t find a fred rat head in his order.
