Point Guards

Chris Paul >>> by far the most talent lies at the point guard position in the NBA. A slew of NBA teams is blessed with versatile one-man who are redefining the position. The power-scoring guards like D. Rose, Russell Westbrook, and John Wall are capable of dominating an entire game on their lonesome. Then you have guards like Stephen Curry and Kyrie Irving who are smooth but deadly. Where do you go and who do you choose?

I’m starting with CP3, who in my opinion is the best pure point guard since Jason Kidd. No, he is not a better scorer than Kyrie or Curry but he can score with the best of them. He demands the attention of the best defender on the other team. Lately opposing coaches have resorted to sticking long-wing men on him to slow him down. His defense and shooting are better than Rondo’s, and his court vision can only be compared to LeBron’s. The combination of his intangibles along with his playmaking epitomizes him as the standard of a true point guard.

Career Stats: Points: 18.6 Assists: 9.9 Rebounds: 4.4

curryStephen Curry >>> from a talent standpoint, I believe that Derrick Rose and Russell Westbrook are the best point guards in the NBA. The obvious reason they didn’t make the list is their history of injuries. Once again both have suffered injuries that kept them out of multiple games this new season. Some credit has to be given to durability and reliability, which neither can be given credit for at this point.

Seniority and honorable mention need to be given to Tony Parker who has never gotten the credit he deserves. Speaking of underrated, let’s shout out Kyle Lowry and Mike Conley. All these guys came into consideration when I was trying to select this pick. Then I look at Damian Lillard, John Wall, and Kyrie Irving; all worthy candidates. I saw Kyrie murdered Lillard which crossed him out and Wall was inconsistent. When it came down to Kyrie and Curry; I thought Curry was just better. Better jumper and better defense. Not to mention Kyrie hasn’t led his team to a winning season, even though he was the focal point of the offense. Curry has dominated in the regular season and postseason.
