The coaches told the school’s players Friday afternoon that they had only nine games left for the school year; two players had transferred to Louisville this year with the sole goal of playing in the tournament. “They were hit over the head with a sledgehammer,” coach Rick Pitino said.
Back in October, Katina Powell, who calls herself a former escort and madam, released a book that accused Louisville officials of paying for strippers and “side deals” that included sex with recruits and current players. The NCAA is still investigating these claims.
According to ESPN, the Cardinals have not missed the NCAA tournament since 2006. This year, they are ranked 19th in the Associated Press poll and would likely have been fifth seed in their division. Louisville won the National Championship in 2013.
