According to Ray, 47, she and the fashion designer, 42, sent each other decidedly different gifts to help ease the pain of the Beyhive’s attacks.
“Rachel [Roy] sent me flowers and I sent her a bottle, a big bottle of wine and a straw,” the Rachael Ray Show host told Us at the HealthCorps 10th Annual Garden Gala in New York City on Tuesday, May 10.
“[I was going to send Roy] Brunello di Montalcino, where I was married, but I said for our office to ask her office if she drinks red and if she didn’t drink red, to send Grande Dame,” Ray continued of the gesture. “So I don’t know actually which one she got. I wrote the card and she got the straw and the booze.”
As Us Weekly previously reported, Ray was erroneously attacked by Beyoncé fans online. The perky, wholesome TV chef was besieged by the Beyhive on social media after some speculated that “Becky” was Roy, whose name is only a few letters off from Ray’s.
Many believed Roy hinted that she was “Becky” — the mysterious mistress mentioned in Queen Bey’s track “Sorry,” who seemingly came between the singer and her husband, Jay Z — when she posted an Instagram of herself and a few gal pals. “Good hair don’t care, but we will take good lighting, for selfies, or self truths, always. Live in the light #nodramaqueens,” she captioned the now-deleted pic. Roy (who was rumored to be the catalyst for Solange Knowles’ 2014 Met Gala elevator fight with Jay Z) has denied that she is “Becky with the good hair.”
For her part, Ray — who told Us she once accidentally picked up Roy’s dry-cleaning because of their similar monikers — thought the whole case of mistaken identity was pretty funny.
“[It was] hilarious. I thought it was the coolest thing ever! I was like, ‘Are you kidding me? I’m even mentioned in the same sentence as these people? That’s insane. That’s awesome,’” she explained to Us with a laugh. “I think honestly that it was really much more uncomfortable for the rest of the people in that group than for me. I was like, ‘I’m mixed in with all of those peeps?! What the hell?!’”
“I mean, it’s so far removed from my life,” Ray added. “I’m a cook. I have a little talk show. We chit-chat.”
