Should Brett Favre be Criminally Charged in Mississippi Welfare Fraud Scheme?

Davis was sentenced to 32 years in state prison and ordered to pay restitution by Judge Adrienne Wooten. He was involved in the biggest welfare fraud case in Mississippi’s state history.

He was accused of giving grant dollars to New Summit School founder Nancy New and her son Zach, who have already pleaded guilty.

One of the biggest names mentioned in the fraud case is retired NFL star, Brett Favre. DHS officials gave Favre federal money from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families fund, to build a volleyball facility at his alma mater Southern Mississippi University.

Five million dollars was committed to Southern Mississippi Athletic Foundation. Another $1.1 million was given to Favre to make motivational speeches to people in the state.  Favre never made those speeches and a Mississippi state auditor ordered him to pay the money back.

He has since paid the $1.1 million dollars back, but not the $228,000 in the interest the auditor also demanded.  The former quarterback hasn’t been accused of a crime or charged. According to his lawyer, Bud Holmes, he did nothing wrong and never understood he was paid with money intended to help poor children.

However, in August 2017, a text was revealed from Favre to Nancy New asking her “If you were to pay me is there any way the media can find out where it came from and how much?”

Why would Favre ask about the media knowing about the money if it wasn’t “understood” it was wrong or at the very least unethical?

There are other people involved in this case such as former Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant and former professional wrestler Brett DiBiase

When you look at the timeline of events that transpired, you will see this wasn’t just a typo in accounting. It was an elaborate scheme involving mainly entitled White folks stealing from primarily poor Black folks.

According to the auditor, $70 million in TANF welfare funds from the poorest state in America was given to a multimillionaire athlete, a professional wrestler, a horse farm, and a volleyball complex.

I’m going to let that sync in and ask you again should Brett Favre be criminally charged in this case?
