Wynton Marsalis to inaugurate new series at National Black Arts Festival

The lauded musician will perform a concert with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra at 8 p.m. July 25 at Atlanta Symphony Hall. Tickets are $35-$75 and on sale at noon Friday via Ticketmaster and the Symphony Hall box office.

Marsalis is the curator of the new series, which means he will select a mentor, a peer and a protégé to appear as part of a number of performances.

“I’ve selected artists whose virtuosity and dedication has earned the spotlight,” Marsalis said in a statement.

Marsalis’ selections, as well as the rest of the NBAF season, will be unveiled on May 21 with an announcement at City Hall, hosted by Mayor Kasim Reed.
