Rep. Maxine Waters talks with T.I and Yo-Yo about the Culture of Hip Hop

These conversations and movements to stop Hip Hop took place amongst some local leaders and made their way to the highest courts in this country. In the face of that agenda, a few politicians stood with rappers and supported the Hip Hop Community.

One notable person was Representative Maxine Waters. The decorated politician, who has been representing California’s 43rd congressional district since 1991 has never wavered in her support for the men and women within the Hip Hop community.

Her contribution came full circle last year as she hosted a summit that commemorated the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop. The event occurred during the Black Caucus in Washington D.C.  Waters was joined by Hip Hop artists T.I and Yo-Yo.

Rep. Waters jokingly started by reminding people of her age and love for Hip Hop.

She then introduced T.I. and Yo-Yo to the stage.

T.I. shared stories on how he got started in the music business.

Yo-Yo also spoke on her career and how Rep. Waters has played a part in it.

She also showed that she still has dance moves

The event was also used to highlight issues in our community such as prison reform.
