Taraji P. Henson’s Message to Black People on Mental Health is Spot On: “We have to Invest in Ourselves”

What I’m finding out is the sista tells it like it is. Therefore, when I got a chance to speak in Washington D.C., I shouldn’t expect anything less. The veteran actress was at the Black Democratic Conference earlier this year talking about mental health for Black people.

The Howard alum was letting it be known the importance of our people seeking a therapist or professional health when it comes to maintaining and raising our mental stability.

She stressed that Black people must make mental health a priority. In the video below she had a great quote saying: “Who gonna take care of us If it’s not us!”?”

She pointed out that the mental health system is not set up to cater to the needs of our community.

Therefore we have to listen to our children and recognize what their needs and concerns are.

Taraji gave a great example of how finding the right therapist is like choosing the right relationship.
