Angel Reese Announces Personal Decision After 3rd WNBA Season

However, the Dream suffered a heartbreaking defeat in Game 7 of the WNBA Finals on Saturday night. The Golden State Valkyries secured a 68-63 victory, marking their first title in just their second WNBA season.

Reese made her first social media post on Sunday. She acknowledged the season’s disheartening end but expressed her determination to pursue her first WNBA championship next year. The Defensive Player of the Year thanked her family, friends, teammates and fans in a heartfelt end-of-season message.

In a subsequent Instagram post from her Barbie Archives account, Reese announced that she’s taking a six-month hiatus from the page, with the objective of “dedicating this off season to myself.”

The 24-year-old also shared some news about her podcast, “Unapologetically Angel,” which she first launched in September 2024.

“i won’t be doing my podcast this off season but you can expect some vlogs from time to time. so subscribe to my YOUTUBE,” she wrote.

“florida will be my home & i will be there resting, working out, continuing to work on my personal brand quietly, and supporting/ loving on my partner. things that i love to do that brings me so much PEACE.”

Reese will leave Atlanta to live in Florida during the WNBA offseason. This will bring her closer to her partner, Wendell Carter Jr., who currently plays for the Orlando Magic in the NBA.

Reese is still under contract with the Dream through 2027 under her original rookie deal. However, the three-time All-Star will be eligible to sign a contract extension in the offseason.

She was named to the All-WNBA Second Team in 2026, which makes her eligible for a massive payday in her next contract through the Exceptional Performance on Initial Contract (EPIC) provision. Under her current rookie contract, Reese will earn $396,282 next season. However, she is now eligible to sign a maximum contract for 2027 and a supermax deal for the subsequent three seasons.

The maximum contract in 2026 was $1.19 million. Under the new CBA, the cap is expected to increase by up to 13%, and the maximum salary would grow at the same rate.
