Imagine clapping your eyes on a bare Google doc during the afternoon that needs to be filled with something, anything. Bereft of inspiration or motivation, you saunter over to the soda machine for that bubbly lemon-lime boost, where you meet the words of Drizzy. “On a mission trying to shift the culture,” you say to yourself. Drake just gets it. The workday is saved!
Other lyrical gems that are on the cans: Drake’s “Know yourself, know your worth,” Nas’ “The world is yours,” Biggie’s “Lyrically I’m supposed to represent,” and Rakim’s “Thinking of a master plan.”
The collection of cans will be distributed throughout the summer. “Legacy means everything to me. When I wrote these lyrics, I never imagined my fans would someday have the opportunity to enjoy a can of Sprite and experience my art in a totally original way,” gushed Nas in a statement about “Obey Your Verse.”
How Notorious B.I.G.’s “climb the ladder to success escalator style”, or literally any line from Nas’ “Hate Me Now” didn’t make the cut is anyone’s guess.
