I didn’t get a chance to hear the discussion from the beginning. When I got there, Vic Mensa was talking about the ups and downs of being an independent artist. He clarified that even though he is independent, it takes a supportive team to keep your career afloat.
I had to leave because I was illegally parked. In case you don’t know, Chicago will ticket, boot, and tow your car quickly if you are illegally parked in the downtown area. When I returned, the person leading the Q&A with the audience was speaking passionately about something. Whatever it was, it garnered applause from the audience.
Throughout the crowd, there was a sense of admiration and respect for Vic Mensa. Some of the comments from the audience were from aspiring artists who stated that watching Vic’s ascension from the city to the mainstream was inspirational.
One of the people asked Vic about his new podcast. “The Vic Mensa Show” debuted on Wednesday, Aug. 26, with Chance The Rapper appearing in the first episode. The audience member wanted to know what type of format and direction the show will take.
” It touches on a wide range of subjects”, Vic responded. He said he didn’t know exactly in which direction he would take the show but did reveal some of the future guests. One would be Grammy Award-winning rapper Rhaposdy. “Check her new album out,” Vic said to the crowd. Another would be Durand Bernarr, who Vic stated was thoroughly knowledgeable on “Queer Culture.”
Then the final question came from a young lady in the front row. She commended Vic on his composure during a previous question earlier in the day. Her sentiments seemed to be echoed by other audience members who clapped in agreement. Then it was over, and I was curious.
What happened earlier in the day? Upon asking a couple of people, I was told that there was a problem with an audience member. I heard that he had to be thrown out of the building. I did hear that Vic handled the situation with composure.
