After more than 125 years and 23 billion tiny toys, Cracker Jack is no longer adding a traditional surprise at the bottom of their caramel-coated popcorn. Frito-Lay, owner of the traditional snack, says fans will now find a digital code on a sticker. The code provides a link to mobile games the customers can play.
Doing so, “allows families to enjoy their favorite baseball moments through a new, one-of-a-kind mobile experience,” according to Frito-Lay.
Considered an American tradition for over a century, some fans are left upset over the change, while others say it’s a necessary adjustment in the digital world.
Along with the new digital prize, Cracker Jack comes with all new packaging and a logo. Instead of the traditional box, fans will find “Sailor Jack” and his dog “Bingo” on a bag, sporting a red and white striped pattern.
