Disparity in School System Requires Change from Parents

In 2011 The Orland Sentinel reported findings consistent with discrimination after an extensive examination of Florida Charter schools.

“Today, many of the new Florida charters are targeting black or Hispanic students. There are charters for Jewish, Greek, Puerto Rican and Native American students, too. Enrollment at some can run to 99 percent black or Hispanic, with not a single white student at 19 charters and more than a quarter of all Florida charters with 10 percent or fewer white students, according to the state’s official count in October.”

This begs the question what do you do when you have limited resources, but want the best education for your child? Or better yet how do you win, when the system is set up for you to fail? I believe that if you can’t home school your own kids, you should serve as their most important teacher.

More than ever a dual education is needed to help our children survive the jungles of America. Not only should we encourage our children to excel in the classroom but also inform them about the discriminatory laws, and the prejudice that exist in our country. Inform them about the “Stand Your Ground Law” and the “RICO” laws. Don’t forget the racial profiling, that we black folks all know as “Driving while Black.” Then find a constitution and show them the amendment that classified blacks as property and as “3/4 human”

These things aren’t taught in schools and specifically apply to the nourishment and well-being of our children. These things can be taught while conversing or engaging in normal activities around your home with your child. The bottom line is we need to be our children first and most important teacher.
