Four years of [accidentally] running into Stacey Abram’s run for Governor

For some odd reason, throughout those four years, I have witnessed the fight of the former Georgia State Representative. Maybe more than anything, it may speak to how much time I have spent in Atlanta.

In 2018, I saw her at the One Music Fest and she got big applause for supporting and promising to “decriminalization of marijuana, legalization of medical marijuana and local cultivation of medical marijuana.”

Later that year, Abrams started the Fair Fight Action organization which primary goal was to address voter suppression in Georgia and across the United States. I was in Atlanta in 2020 when Abrams talked about that organization and her upbringing at the A3C Conference.

Then recently, earlier this year, I once again seen Abrams at the One Music Fest. This time she came on stage during a performance by Jeezy.

I wrote an article talking about how in Atlanta there is intersection of Black politics, entertainment, and culture. Despite the level of Black excellence that I have witnessed in the actual city of Atlanta, the state of Georgia is primarily rural and Republican. In the end, this didn’t bode well for Abrams and her bid to be the first Black Woman to become governor of Georgia.

However, the one thing that I have noticed about Abrams is she has determination. I guess that would be the purpose of this article. Not only to show my indirect encounters of seeing Abrams, but also that she will continue make her presence known in politics and beyond.
