Keshia Knight Pulliam Says She Faced Horrific Racism At Local Hospital Post-Birth

According to The Daily Mail, Keshia says that she checked in under a pseudonym, and that one of the hospital workers, an “older little white lady,” assumed that she was a single mother in need, and began to offer her information about government assistance programs.

“So I guess she saw this little black girl with the little baby by herself and on the door, I didn’t realize that they’d put like a faux last name and the last name was Brown,’ Pulliam said. “So I guess she saw ‘Miss Brown’ and was like, ‘She probably needs some WIC’ and insurance services.”

Though she understands it may be par for the course for hospital workers to inform patients about all offered services, Pulliam wasn’t too pleased about the assumptions she felt were being made; she interrupted the woman to thank her and let her know that she has “excellent” insurance.

But wait, there’s more! The woman in question was Pulliam’s lactation specialist, but despite the hands-on nature of helping new mothers learn to breastfeed, Pulliam said the woman seemed very reluctant to touch her.

“Like, she didn’t want to touch me,” Pulliam said. “They literally will like, guide your boob, show you how to hold it, put it in the baby’s mouth. This lady was not trying to touch my little brown boobie. Not at all.”

She eventually requested a new specialist. Overall, it sounds like it wasn’t the best birthing experience, honestly. You can get the full story on Keshia’s podcast here.
