Some Hip Hop historians have different accounts of who or where the sub-genre of “Street Music” started. A lot of people credit people like NWA or before that Ice-T as the pioneers of “Gangsta or Reality Rap.”
Since then, different artists had come and picked up the mantle to carry the music to new heights. Arguably, one of the most celebrated periods of this music was during the mid-2000s. Artists like Jeezy, T.I, and Gucci Mane coined and popularized the term “Trap Music” which was pretty much in the same vein as street music of the past.
